So, what’s happening in my life?

This is, by far, the worst week of every month for me as far as work is concerned. I work a two week rota, which means week 1 & 3 are the same and week 2 & 4 are the same. The fourth week I get paid on the Friday, which is greatly desired every single month no matter how badly I tell myself I won’t spend my entire wages in the first week!

The thing I hate most about week 4 of every month is that I work Saturday day shift, Sunday back shift and then Monday back shift. And back shifts are rubbish. I have no time to do anything at all, aside from the money (which gets done twice a day), putting out some ‘daily’ stock and running back and forth getting change and doing voids for my staff.

At least during day shifts I can do things like cleaning out my (I say my, obviously it’s the company’s but it’s my responsibilty) fruit and vegetable chiller, sticking out stock that doesn’t generally need to get worked daily, doing paperwork (you would never, ever believe just how much paperwork a little shop like mine generates)…you know, things that I can take my time over ensuring they are done properly. And it also means that I’m on shift with the boss lady, who is a complete sweetie and we have a laugh when we’re working.

I don’t even know why I’m complaining about it, I’m lucky that I only work a two week rota, some shops work a 3 week rota - one weekend off a month! I don’t think so, thank you very much. The weekends are the only time I get to see the boyfriend and it’s a hassle having to leave his house at 6am on a Saturday, only to be back 8 hours later by which time I’m knackered and just want to sleep.

Obviously on top of working my usual shifts I’m doing my course work; some of which I have no option but to do when I’m at work. I’m still really, really enjoying it and I can’t wait to move onto the next module - sad as I am - because it’s probably going to cover the office-side of running a shop and that’s one of the bits that I enjoy the most.

On top working full time, completing modules for my course and learning to drive I want to do a distance learning course at the college near my house which has just become a university. I’m really interested in doing their CertHE Business with Retail Management course. The only problem is that I don’t have the required qualifications to do it. You need a Higher in English, which I didn’t do because I wanted to learn things about life from working, not sitting in a classroom. Oh, how I regret that now.

I hope that I can maybe meet with the tutors and explain my situation and hopefully be allowed to do the course. It’s not a degree, so I hope that me not having Higher English isn’t a major problem. I have a Credit 2 Standard Grade English, which is essentially the same qualification!

So, people, what’s happening in your life? Any major changes? Or is life just the same-old, same-old?

Oh, and what do you think about this picture of Britney, modelling in the new advert for her new perfume, ironically called ‘Believe’.Britney hasn’t looked like that for years, there is no way on Earth that the picture was taken earlier on this summer. Maybe her face was, but they’ve so super-imposed her head onto her body circa 1999! What do you think?

Stumbling around in the dark.

For around the past hour I’ve been sitting in the complete dark (the bulbs are out in this room and there’s none in the house to replace them. damnit) and I’ve realised that I can’t touch type in the dark. Seriously, what is up with that? I can touch type pretty darn quickly, since I have been typing since I was about 5 years old, but once you hit the lights I have major problems. I keep loosing my ‘home’ keys, and typing gibberish. Do any of you have problems typing in the dark, or is it just me being an idiot?!

So - since I can’t type I’ve been hitting ‘Stumble’ on my StumbleUpon toolbar, and generally being amused at the website’s I’m coming across. This quote from a website is one of my favourites;

My flight was being served by an obviously gay flight attendant, who seemed to put everyone in a good mood as he served us food and drinks.

As the plane prepared to descend, he came swishing down the aisle and told us “Captain Marvey has asked me to announce that he’ll be landing the big scary plane shortly, so lovely people, if you could just put your trays up, that would be super.”

On his trip back up the aisle, he noticed an extremely well-dressed and exotic young woman hadn’t moved a muscle. “Perhaps you didn’t hear me over those big brute engines but I asked you to raise your trazy-poo, so the main man can pitty-pat us on the ground.”

She calmly turned her head and said, “In my country, I am called a Princess and I take orders from no one.”

To which the flight attendant replied, without missing a beat, “Well, sweet-cheeks, in my country I’m called a Queen, so I outrank you. Tray up, Bitch.”

One of my friends is a flight attendant, typically gay and this is the sort of thing I can see him doing. It’s priceless!

Since I’m honestly having real problems typing (I still don’t understand why…) I’m going to do some coursework, and track down rechargable batteries for my digital camera, because that thing eats batteries like you wouldn’t believe. It’s a Canon aswell, and Kodak Digital Camera Batteries only last about 15 pictures!!
