Welcome to the candyshop

Posted in Uncategorized on March 30th, 2008 by admin – Comments

Welcome to the candyshop I really shouldn’t be sitting online munching a lot of sweets considering the boyfriend’s on his way back with my lunch, a nice healthy Burger King!

My body’s all confused because the clock’s went forward this morning, the computer says 16.49 (right), the alarm clock says 15.49 and my body says it’s about 11.00 since I was up half the night!

Oh, and by the way weather system? It’s spring now. So stop with the rain and snow please?

Welcome to my new home!

Since Mari is moving from nightmare DreamHost to HoldFire I obviously had to backup my WordPress installation, backup all the files on the server that I needed and keep it safe for a few days until the switch was done. At some point during this very long and boring process, I did most of it manually, I decided that since I had about $50 in my PayPal account I would look for a good host / register and finally buy my own domain again.

It took me quite a while to track one down that was a great price and had positive reviews. I ended up going with VoNetwork.net’s S-200 plan for a mere $20.00 per year for 200MB of space with 4GB of bandwidth. I really, really don’t need any more space than that but if I do then I’ll just upgrade in the future. I came across VoNetwork.net via Jenn’s post about them on Lavish.

Anyway, within 20 minutes my site was live and I was searching for a decent theme to put up while I created my own. Something happened to my installation (uh, it went..nasty!) and by the time I’d fixed it the lovely people over at WordPress.org had released version 2.5 so I wiped my site and started over with a new install of this fabulous new version of WordPress.

So, ladies and gents, welcome to my new home - AshesFromStars.com

Forgotten?

Posted in Uncategorized on March 22nd, 2008 by admin – Comments

Nope, not forgotten about being online I’ve just not had a minute to think for myself over the past week or so. It doesn’t look like much has been going on online anyway!

In case you hadn’t noticed there’s a new theme up - it’s based on the previous theme since I loved that one so much and I’m still working on wee bits here and there but I love it so much I had to make it live. I’ve also had a bit of a clean up and am fixing pages and plugins as I type.

A better post next time, just proving that I’m still alive.

Grans Birthday

What on earth do you buy a 70 year old for their birthday? It’s my grans in 10 days and I’m stuck for ideas other than chocolates, flowers or a new housecoat! Ideas, please?

I am The Stig

Posted in Uncategorized on March 15th, 2008 by admin – Comments

I’ve had three driving lessons with a driving instructor and I seem to think that I am The Stig.

My first lesson was on Tuesday with Red Driving School. I’m intentionally not linking to their website because I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone, there was an obvious reason that there lessons were so cheap - incompetent springs to mind. The instructor didn’t even ask to see my driving license at any point during the lesson, never mind ask things like “read the license plate on X car” to check my eyesight.

Within 10 minutes of being in the car (a new Corsa, didn’t like it much) I was driving down the main road next to my house at 30 miles an hour and going around roundabouts scared for my life. Baring in mind that it was snowing heavily the night before the roads were in a horrendous state. I was petrified, making stupid mistakes like stalling at roundabouts with roadworks on them in between two double decker buses. Not good.

Needless to say, I’m not going back with Red. My mum paid for two lessons with a local driving instructor who is a lovely man, and explained everything to me properly. I’ve also been out with my mum a good few times in the local industrial estate, but for the life of me I can’t find the biting point of the clutch in her car very well, thus the reason we’ve not been out on ‘real’ roads.

Never mind, I love driving more than I ever thought I did. I just need to remember and think sooner and I’ll be fine. I keep forgetting to change down gears when getting to junctions and roundabouts and try to take corners like The Stig.

So, no Asda after all.

So, according to the East Kilbride News this week the new Asda that’s supposedly being built down near McDonalds isn’t actually going to be an Asda foodstore, it’s a shop called Asda Living which sells everything from cutlery to curtains.

That makes me even more peeved about the fact they are building it on a (now) demolished building since there are two empty shop units sitting across the road from the prospective site, which are more than perfect for such a shop, since one of them already sells the exact same items.

I guess my previous rant was premature. Oh well.
