Journey’s End - My thoughts

Ok so I’ve fallen behind a bit on my Doctor Who episode reviews, I think the last one I did was when Martha was still with the Doctor. But hey, it’s the finale, I need to vent my ‘omg-no-Doctor-til-Christmas” feelings.

Firstly, the regeneration. A little hint for the writers, don’t make is so damn obvious what the outcome of your amazing cliffhanger is going to be. I knew last week that the Doctor’s hand from The Christmas Invasion was going to stop 10 becoming 11. The completly unsubtle panning shot of the hand in the jar was too obvious, and killed your cliffhanger for me and about a thousand other Whovians. We know our shit about DW!

Don’t get me wrong. I wouldn’t have been very happy if Tennent had left - to me he’s my Doctor, and I want a few more years out of looking at his cute Paisley arse and darn pretty face. But the Doctor’s never been able to control his regeneration before, so you’re making up new rules to fit your storyline - naughty RTD.

More to the point, is that one of his regeneration’s used up? Is Tennent now 11? Do we only have on Doctor left? Answers on a postcard, please.

One point though - why did Jack not ask one single question about how Rose was back in our dimension? She’s ’stuck’ in hers forever, and now she’s back? I’d want to know how and why. And kiss her.

I quite liked Jackie and Mickey saving Sarah Jane from the Daleks with their huge guns, nice use of the ripping holes in dimensions transporters. It would have been cooler seeing SJ running the Daleks over in her wee car though. And SJ acting like a real, proper companion giving her self up to the Daleks to get to the Doctor was ace. Once a kickass companion, always a kickass companion. Don’t think the Tin Dog would have thought of that one on his own, eh?

Gwen and Ianto in Torchwood, I knew there was a reason that Jack told them to stay where they were, he must have known about Tosh’s timelock thingy. A nice wee way to ensure that Torchwood lives on. And Ianto with that gun? Yum!

“You’re still you?” “I’m still me” Well, Doctor. Kiss Rose then. Seriously. You got shot by a Dalek trying to get to her, KISS HER YOU FOOL.

The Dalek’s Temperal Prison, now that was cool. The halo around the TARDIS was pretty darn neat, and sparkly. I like sparkly things.

Martha and her Haagen-Dazs (ok, ok Auster Haagen…or however you spell it) key? She’s such a soldier and I dislike her more than anything now.

Doctor, wee note. Jack and Rose were more than brilliant - they were fantastic. I don’t care if that’s 9’s thing, FANTASTIC I tell you.

“The TARDIS is a weapon and it will be destroyed” - I actually shouted No! at the screen. Not for the fact Donna’s still in there, but because you can’t destroy the TARDIS. It’s unspeakable. I knew that Donna would come through and save the TARDIS though, because you can hardly travel in time and space with no TARDIS now, can you? I loved how she reaches out for the Hand in her final moments, to be close to the Doctor in death.

OHMYGOD naked Doctor. Two Doctors! I did not see Tennent having a hairy chest, quite a nice look actually. I’m telling you, RTD writes like a fanfic.

Captain Jack saves the day, ’sacrificing’ himself. Rose doesn’t know that he can’t die, but the Doctor does.

I love how 10.5 (new Doctor) is part human, part Donna. Donna finally realising that she’s important, that’s she more than just a temp. Finally, her reasoning as a companion is realised. I did not see that one coming at all.

German Daleks, oh my god. Who’d have thought that they were multi-lingual?

I think that the Doctor realising that he does use weapons, his friends, was so moving. He looked so hurt, so disgusted with himself. I’ve never thought of the Doctor as being a warrier before but that’s exactly what he is with his army of friends against the world and universe.

DoctorDonna was a wee bit weird and a wee bit too convientent, but hey. She gets to save the day at last. Making the Daleks spin was just too good, like Jack kicking one out the way. Hah, Daleks having nothing to combat DoctorDonna.

“Three Doctors?” “I can’t tell you what I’m thinking right now” Oh trust me Jack, I’m thinking the same thing, but not with DoctorDonna in the equation.

10.5 killing all the Daleks…eh, good for you. Why is 10 angry? That’s what was meant to happen is it not? Kill the Daleks, save the world and not a cheerleader in sight.

Darn the TARDIS was crowded, just the way it’s meant to be flown. Loved how Rose and 10 got the Gwenyth/Gwen connection. And K-9! I want one.

Ok, day saved. Earth back in Orbit. SJ’s going back to her Adventures, Jack’s back to Torchwood (with Martha and Mickey replacing Owen and Tosh?).

Bad Wolf Bay, that scene had me in tears. 10’s giving up Rose again. Jees, tears in my eyes writing this. But it’s ok, Rose gets 10.5. And 10 gets nothing, nothing at all. So, so, so, so, so sad. Yes 10.5 has his face, memories, his anger. But he’s not 10. And hello? That was a good kiss. I hate how Rose never got to say bye to 10 properly, but maybe that was the best way.

And the whole Donna memory wiping? Cried at that two. Don’t even like her but that’s so cruel and sad. And the Doctor’s alone again…I’m sorry, I’m so sorry.
