Well, haven’t I been a busy girl recently? Along with working over 45 hours a week I’ve managed to find time to work on my management training program quite a bit (currently sitting at 25,000 words!), arrange all my Christmas shopping before I even get paid and go and buy it all and set up two websites for clients! Granted the clients in question are family friends but still - it’s great to have something to add to my folio again. You’d never think that I could actually code a website from scratch considering both my website and livejournal are themes that I’ve tinkered with a lot!

As of next week I’ll have finished my Christmas shopping, paid off the remainder of my debt and finally had a night out with my old boss - it’s the shop’s Christmas night out on the 8th December and I can’t wait! It might just be a pub dinner and then heading into Glasgow city center afterwards but it’s going to be a blast since I haven’t seen boss-lady in a while and a few of the other guys that are going no longer cover my shop so I’ve not seen them in ages either!

It’s a shame that I won’t have my new camera by then, since I’m getting it for my Christmas from the boyfriend, but hey - I’ll take lots of camera phone pictures!

So, ladies and gents, what is Santa bringing you this year?

The best free webhosts, as tested by me.

I for one know how annoying it is when you decide you want to (re-)open a website and don’t want to splash out for a domain and hosting straight away. Over the years I’ve had numerous different domain names and paid hosting, as well as having lots of sites on freehosts. I admit it, when I was younger I was running upto 20 websites at a time. Personal site, blog, review sites, layout sites, fanlistings, hosting sites…hey, I was a fat kid with no friends when I was 13 - I had time to spare.

Anyway, roll on 8 years and the world of free hosting is slightly better these days than it was back then. I remember being pretty much restricted to Geocities and Homestead! This post will be updated as and when I come across good, free webhosts.

    I have fond memories of 110mb.com, this website actually started out there for a few days before I accepted for hosting here at misstuned.com. Their website quotes the following;

    110MB is powered by Quad Intel Xeon Servers operating in a cluster-based environment. In plain english: lots of servers connected together rather then 1 server which hosts all the members as is true for 99% of free hosts, since they can’t afford extra servers. Meaning that if one 110MB server goes down temporarily, your site will be entirely unaffected — ensuring maximum data protection and uptime for your site.

    It’s certainly true - I have a few sites currently on 110mb.com and I don’t think that I’ve ever seen any of them down at all!

    The reason that I love 110mb.com is the excellent CPanel which it boasts. From it you can set up MySQL databases (there is now a $10 fee to do this now, shame really. You could always use freemysql.net ) access phpMyAdmin and one-click install over 30 great scripts and CMS, including my trusty WordPress. There’s also phpBB3, CuteNews, bBlog, ZenCart and Coppermine in there too. For those not wanting to pay the small fee that is now charged for MySQL there is a WordPress installation which doesn’t use it, called FlatPress which is a one-click installation. I’ve tried it out and it’s just like WordPress only a lot more simplified - perfect for first-time bloggers!
    An other great feature of 110mb.com is the FTP access and the easy to use File Manager with built in un-zipper. You can upload a .zip file and then press the unzip button to..well unzip the file into a folder!

If you’d like to nominate or suggest a free host for my to try out, leave me a comment below.

Stumbling around in the dark.

For around the past hour I’ve been sitting in the complete dark (the bulbs are out in this room and there’s none in the house to replace them. damnit) and I’ve realised that I can’t touch type in the dark. Seriously, what is up with that? I can touch type pretty darn quickly, since I have been typing since I was about 5 years old, but once you hit the lights I have major problems. I keep loosing my ‘home’ keys, and typing gibberish. Do any of you have problems typing in the dark, or is it just me being an idiot?!

So - since I can’t type I’ve been hitting ‘Stumble’ on my StumbleUpon toolbar, and generally being amused at the website’s I’m coming across. This quote from a website is one of my favourites;

My flight was being served by an obviously gay flight attendant, who seemed to put everyone in a good mood as he served us food and drinks.

As the plane prepared to descend, he came swishing down the aisle and told us “Captain Marvey has asked me to announce that he’ll be landing the big scary plane shortly, so lovely people, if you could just put your trays up, that would be super.”

On his trip back up the aisle, he noticed an extremely well-dressed and exotic young woman hadn’t moved a muscle. “Perhaps you didn’t hear me over those big brute engines but I asked you to raise your trazy-poo, so the main man can pitty-pat us on the ground.”

She calmly turned her head and said, “In my country, I am called a Princess and I take orders from no one.”

To which the flight attendant replied, without missing a beat, “Well, sweet-cheeks, in my country I’m called a Queen, so I outrank you. Tray up, Bitch.”

One of my friends is a flight attendant, typically gay and this is the sort of thing I can see him doing. It’s priceless!

Since I’m honestly having real problems typing (I still don’t understand why…) I’m going to do some coursework, and track down rechargable batteries for my digital camera, because that thing eats batteries like you wouldn’t believe. It’s a Canon aswell, and Kodak Digital Camera Batteries only last about 15 pictures!!
